Permanent Smile On My Face

This morning I wake up feeling as if I’ve lost something or someone. It is a grievance. For a number of weeks now I have been struggling with trying to put all my ideas from notes/my head into my actual novel without sounding dull or giving a tsunami of information.

Half ten. My friend (Adam!) mentions a show at the Edinburgh Fringe that I would be interested in.

Eleven hours later I am standing at a microphone, severely conscious of my own words booming out from massive loudspeakers to an audience of three or four hundred and seeking writing advice from none other than the fantastic Mr Stephen Moffat.

I know you won’t read this, but thank you. I’m very grateful and aim to heed your advice.

Keep Writing!

Hello Again!

So I’m back! I’m going to be properly organising my stories soon enough, but for all those people still reading (I’m quite impressed that I’m still being Googled!) Here is what I’ve been working on:

Currently 12 thousand words into my thus far unnamed novel. It’s a dystopian thriller and I came up with the idea when I was 17. I think I need to finish this before I can start on anything else.

Other projects that I will be working on after this will be a full novel version of Jupiter’s Children, the story about a human research colony on Europa, Jupiter’s ice moon, and the secrets that unfold. I will also be writing a novel called Forget (working title) about a man who wakes up from a coma to find that not only does he not remember who he is or his life, but that no one notices he has gone. I will also be publishing a short diary like novella on Amazon self publish kindle about life with the world’s worst flatmate!

I know I’ve had my ups and downs about whether or not I should continue as a writer. But Dammit Dan Brown is published. E.L ‘I could dip a broom in paint, shove it up my arse, dance on a trampoline and paint a better written novel on the walls than 50 shades’ James got published! I think I do have what it takes. And if I’m honest, I’d never be happy not making stories. It’s what I do. It’s who I am. Some people skydive, surf, swim with sharks, play Russian roulette to make them feel alive. I pick up a pen and day dream about planets, utopias, flawed characters, magnificent journeys and fantastic adventures.

So I’ve got a prologue and the beginnings of a first chapter.

It’s going well. I haven’t felt the need to delete it or complete it within a day.

Slowly it will all come together.

Jupiter’s Children – First Chapter, First Paragraph

•January 7, 2013 • 2 Comments

First draft of the first paragraph of the first chapter. I don’t think I’ll end up keeping it. It didn’t flow right.

Writer’s block?

The beautiful giant who devoured more than half the celestial encrusted sky smiled with the soft hue of the Sun’s cold and distant rays. A black shadow wrapped around the gas giant like a silky shoal and melted into the darkness of space itself as smoothly as oil. The planet herself with her sandstone bands of immeasurable size, sung her song out to the rest of her solar system. The wild heart of the woman, the savage surface and the crushing power were but a twinkling of bright white light hanging in a sea of sparkling jewels; but here, millions of miles away, she watched over all her children equally and never let them leave her sight.

Keys

“Keys are strange cross-universe beings that are not stable to be in their native universe for very long, especially in mornings and times that they are needed urgently.”
